Are you among the many dissatisfied users of QuickBooks Online and are now considering a move to Cloud hosted QuickBooks. If yes then this blog post is here to help you make the data migration process easier.
To start the data migration process, the first thing you’ll need to use Internet Explorer in Compatibility mode. You can do this by pressing the F12 button after opening IE then change the browser mode option to IE Compatibility Mode. Once you have the browser thing sorted out the next thing you need to do is open QuickBooks online and log into your account. To begin the data export process, first click on the Company tab and then click on the “Export Data”, which you’ll find in the “More” drop-down submenu.
As you will have to use IE for the data migration, it will ask you to install ActiveX Control and is absolutely necessary to complete the process. If you’re working on a hosted setup, then you will have to ask your support staff to install it for you from their end. Once the ActiveX plugin is installed, and the Export Overview page loads, the next thing you need to do is to click on the “Export interview” link.
After you click on the “Export Interview” link, you will then be presented with another page titled “Exporting from QuickBooks Online Plus” where you have to select the type of data transfer you want to execute. And as this blog is about migrating data from QB Online to a hosted QB setup, you will have to choose the “List & Transactions” option and then click on “Next“.
After you select the type of data transfer, the next window will offer options of QuickBooks versions and you must choose the version that you require or need. Do remember though, that you can only convert to 2004 and later version of QuickBooks and additionally you cannot convert data for the Nonprofit or Retail industry editions of QuickBooks Premier or Enterprise.
Next, you will be presented with a another window where QB Online intimates you about the few data transfer limitations, where you will have to acknowledge them by clicking on a few checkboxes. After that you will have to click on the “Next” button, after which you will be presented with the last window in the data transfer process.
Next, you will be presented with a window where you will have to fill in your email id and name. After you have done that, simply click on “Prepare Data” and you will receive your data on your previously mentioned e-mail id when the data is ready.
When you receive the email, there will be a link which opens up another window, QB Online will ask for the purpose of the data transfer. You just need to choose the first option and click on “Next”. After this, your download process will start and once the download is complete click on the “Convert” button and them the “Okay” button.
After this process is complete, now you will be reminded to verify the data and cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription if you want to. And finally, you have successfully migrated your financial data from QuickBooks Online to your QB desktop version, which you can now forward to your Cloud hosted service provider to integrate the data with your QB hosted setup.
